Here’s a few of our frequently asked questions. If you have any other questions of your own please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

What is Mental Health First Aid?

Mental Health First Aid is a training course that teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

We will not teach you to be a therapist, but we will teach you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening.

You will learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill-health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.

You will also learn how to empower someone to access the support they might need to aid recovery and successfully manage symptoms. This could include self-help books or websites, accessing therapy services through their GP, their school or workplace, online self-referral, support groups, and more.

What’s more, you will gain an understanding of how to support positive wellbeing and tackle stigma in the world around you.

What is Suicide First Aid?

Our suicide first aid courses, accredited by the City & Guilds, will teach you how to spot the signs and support someone that may be thinking of ending their own life. Using a three-step process, you will learn how to help move someone from a place of isolation and danger to a place of safety.

Who are MHFA England?

MHFA England are a Licensed Provider of Mental Health First Aid training from MHFA International. The Mental Health First Aid programme began in Australia in 2000 and has since evolved into a global movement delivered by an active community of licensed providers in 24 countries. To date, over 4 million people worldwide have been trained.

Why do I need this training for my organisation?

It is estimated that poor mental health costs UK employers £45 billion a year. Stress, anxiety and depression make up for over 50% of all reasons for workplace illness.

It is vital in today’s constantly changing environment that you are aware of what is really going on with your colleagues, friends and family.

Our courses can help to reduce staff turnover, cut sickness absence and increase staff engagement by training your staff to have a kind and caring conversation.

Having trained Mental Health First Aiders strategically placed within your organisation will help to create a safer workplace where your team can thrive and feel supported.

What happens when I book a course?

When you complete your booking, you will be given access to a downloadable document that will contain all of the information required to attend the course. It will include the course agenda and a link to the live zoom training session. Your printed documents will then be ordered and sent out to you by Royal Mail. We are also able to send you digital copies if you require them.

For the two-day Mental Health First Aid course, seven days before the start, you will also be given access to the Online Learning Hub, where you can complete your individual learning activities.

Why choose us?

Why choosing us is a choice that makes a difference.

I very much enjoyed the course, and although the content was heavy in places, it was delivered very sensitively and with a good dose of humour and humanity. Christo is clearly passionate about the subject matter, and he is a very credible and experienced facilitator. Ten out of ten.
